Homework Club is back with new leader Homework Club is our after-school tutoring program for students age 5 to 15. It runs Monday through Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m. Volunteer tutors are matched one-on-one with the children, to act as mentors and help them with their homework. We need tutors! If you can give 90 minutes one day a week, please call Dave at 513-541-7757 ext. 4, or e-mail wucchomeworkclub@hotmail.com. Homework Club really makes a difference in the students' academic performance. Dave is part of the Cincinnati Public Allies apprenticeship program, which places young people with non-profit organizations for a year of service and leadership training. Public Allies, part of the national AmeriCorp program, pays half of the Ally's small stipend, and the non-profit is responsible for the remainder. We are so grateful for three major financial contributors to our Homework Club: Union Savings Bank, the Helen Steiner Rice Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, and Al and Nell Rice. Dave, 27, earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia in Athens. While in Athens, he volunteered for the Christian organization, Young Life, mentoring and working with high school students. Dave's wife, Susie, is from England and is an artist. She has been helping us get ready for our first day of Homework Club and we hope to be seeing a lot of her. The kids already love her! Dave already has developed strong relationships with several Camp Washington youth and has made plans for a successful year. We are very happy that Dave has chosen to spend his Public Allies year at Washington.
